The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any prominent awards ceremony nears, there’s always a demand for the addition fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
